Birthing Hypnosis Course

What are the aims of this course?

This interactive and practical course takes you beyond the basics of using hypnosis to help mothers with their birthing journey. It provides a comprehensive and eclectic approach to birthing hypnosis that has been written and is taught by experienced birthing hypnosis and fertility specialists, award winning midwives and a researcher who gained her PhD in the field.

This course provides you with the evidence-based knowledge and skills to effectively work in one-to-one and group situations as you help guide people through this most life-affirming of experiences. It is eclectic in nature, so does not adhere to one particular theoretical model of using hypnosis for the birthing experience. You will be taught how to evaluate and select the most appropriate approach and to then apply the approach (or approaches) most suitable for your patient based on their individual needs, personality and birthing expectations. Throughout, you will develop the theoretical, practical and strategic skills that support the safe and ethical use of these techniques.

The course also contains a module on hypnotic approaches to working with fertility and therefore gives you, the practitioner, the opportunity to provide a service that extends from conception through to birth and beyond.

Course work

The Birthing Hypnosis Course takes place over a minimum of 4 monthly weekends or a maximum of 5 weekends. For those not trained in hypnotherapy there is a module on hypnosis basics. For non-midwives or non-birthing professionals there is a module on birthing basics. Those who have not trained in either discipline can attend both modules.

You will be provided with weekend workbooks that deliver the core learnings of the course and contain strategies, theoretical background, hypnosis scripts, references, appendices and ongoing checkpoint activities (designed for self-assessment of progress). In addition, you are encouraged to carry out wider reading of relevant books and journal articles to broaden your knowledge beyond the course materials.

The course culminates with the submission of a written essay one month after the last weekend.

You will also have access to an online e-learning environment where you can post questions, interact with lecturers and other students on your course, download resources, and have access to other learning media.

Tutorials

These are optional and can be arranged with individual course lecturers on an ad hoc basis.

Tutorials can form an important and integral part of your training. At these sessions, you can explore areas of the course that you would like to gain greater understanding of, get helpful guidance for your exam and, if you wish, practice techniques learnt.

Tutorials cost 30 (UK pounds) per student, per hour of tutorial, paid directly to your tutor.

Eligibility

The course is open to anyone seeking to become a Birthing Hypnosis Practitioner.

Although a life science or psychology qualification may appear to give an edge for this course, we feel that every student has the ability to learn, even if they have not been in education for a long time. Therefore, we have developed an approach to teaching that allows every student to engage with the process of becoming competent in Birthing Hypnosis. LCCH International offers equal opportunities to all prospective candidates, regardless of previous education, gender or disability.

As you will be dealing with the general public, all prospective students are asked to attend an interview with a college officer before being accepted on our training programmes.

Exit skills

On successful completion of the Birthing Hypnosis Course you will be competent to enter professional practice to help people going through the birthing experience. We encourage the use of clinical supervision to help you on your professional journey.

Progression

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to sign up for on-going support and other resources.

Those who successfully complete the course and hold relevant psychotherapeutic or medical qualifications can progress on to specialist courses that explore the treatment of birth trauma, and post-natal depression.
